So as usual, my Mom called me on her way home from work. When she pulled into the house, she said that my Dad's truck was in the driveway which is not right. He is never home before 7pm. She told me that she would call me back.
About 20 minutes went by and she hadn't called so of course I got nervous. I called her back and asked if everything was okay. Her reply, no. She put my Dad on the phone. He told me that he was laid off today. UGH! How crappy.
My Dad has worked for this large insurance company for about 10 years. He will turn 65 in a few weeks so I guess if it had to happen, now isn't such a bad time since he can get social security and medicare but my parents live a pretty posh life so things are going to be tight. Also, with my Dad being older, it's very hard to find a new job.
Please keep my family in your thoughts. We will find out tomorrow what kind of severance package he gets.
***EDIT*** He was one of 1,700 that got laid off from his company.
